Direct Ethernet

August 28, 2014 – I did not keep the 8 port Ethernet switch because I figured that the WiFi dongles on my Raspberry Pi and Beaglebone Black should work if left alone. I forgot how easily the Raspberry Pi’s WiFi dongle would just stop working. This is probably due to some USB or software issue. This morning when I went to check on my two small card size computers via ssh, they were both unresponsive. This told me that the Raspberry Pi is probably not to blame, but the WiFi dongle probably is. I have read internet reports that the USB ports on these small computers is not all that it could be.

Right then and there I decided that I will add Ethernet cable to both of my machines. I have experienced no dropped ssh or web server connection when I had my Rapberry Pi on the cable.  So although it is like going back to the stone age, at least the stone age technology works.

Now I want to see how many days both machine can be one without rebooting. I purchased each of my small computers in order to have a low power web server available for web development. Let’s see what happens.
